Stiff necked

Exodus 32:9

And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people!

As a people we all become stiff necked from time to time. So caught in our normal routine that we start to become stuck in our way. So much so that we neglect to see other paths, opportunities, and thought processes. Which is why renewing our mind to the word of GOD is so crucial. Yes going to church is good, hearing messages is a good thing, but you really need to be digging into the scriptures yourself to lest you fall prey to becoming stiff necked.

Acts 7:51-53

51 “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. 52 Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers, 53 who have received the law by the direction of angels and have not kept it.”

When we become stiff necked we begin to reject the convictions of the Holy Spirit. You see when the holy spirit comes he convicts our hearts to things that are out of line with his own. Things like giving, forgiveness, serving, and stepping out of our comfort zone to spread the good news. When he comes and convicts we have two choices we can either obey the conviction or we can flee from it and not experience the fullness of his glory in those moments. The best part about it is he will continue to pursue us on the matter and we can turn and obey at any moment.

When we turn from our convictions we often times guise it as a human emotion like offense, or we place the blame on someone else. Giving is a big one, when convicted on this we guise it as offense and begin to complain “oh there they go talking about giving AGAIN.” when in reality the lord is tugging at your heart saying you should be giving too. How about forgiveness, it will manifest as revenge “You don’t understand what they did though they deserve to be beaten.”

How about when we see an issue within a family or a ministry and the spirit convicts us to be a part of the solution or serve in that capacity we begin to place blame on others “Oh well I told the leadership and they haven’t done anything about it.” Yes that can be frustrating, however you saw the issue go be a part of the solution(with love of course)

We can even become stiff-necked in the way we worship and gather constantly bickering between each other on how he is supposed to be praised. When in reality it doesn’t matter what you are singing from the Gregorian chant, to hymnals, to the new contemporary stuff. Heck even if you are smashing a trash can with a baseball bat as long as you are doing it to praise his holy name it is good. And as long as you are preaching the good news in its entirety as the word of truth, and not something blasphemous than that’s good too.

When the conviction falls on our heart and we run from it and cry out in any of those capacities that is just like us taking it back to pre-k screaming that life isn’t fair because little Tommy got an extra snack pack.

1 Corinthians 13:11-13

11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

If you are reading this and grow offended you should search your heart and see what you might being convicted on. I wouldn’t be writing any of this if I couldn’t stand before a judge accused of all of these things at one point or another myself.

as always thank you for reading the impressions on my heart and remember.
