I have always been kind of curious to why valentines day is a thing. Then again I’m usually single on valentine’s day so that might be why. This time of year also always gets me thinking about love. However this year is different and I’m going to explain why. In a way I will be explaining what true love really is
No, im not going to be talking about that haddaway song what is love, nor will I be talking even remotely about the hit 90’s movie night at the Roxbury.
GOD spoke to me recently while praying, and showed me what love looks like.
He was saying that having a special day or days of the year to love one another is good. However, it does not mean we neglect to love one another the rest of the year. As I continued to press in I was brought to some scriptures.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
It spoke to me that even when tempted into provocation, whether right or wrong we are only supposed to love. That even though someone may have not meant harm but did harm we are only supposed to love. Not to say never express how you feel, but express how you feel with love. Not to say never stand up for yourself. But instead stand up for yourself with love. That even though someone may be approaching you with half-truths, or another’s opinion of you and accusing you of things, you are to meet them with love. Love attempts to see others’ perspective in any misunderstanding. Love doesn’t try to compare with others or keep a tally. Love doesnt have an agenda.
Love is forgiveness, and that sometimes we have to forgive people who feel as if they have done no wrong. In the same vein we need to apologize to those who feel they were wronged by us, even though we feel we have not committed an offense.
But all of that is nothing without true love.
1 Corinthians 13:2
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
True love looks like a man brutalized and beaten beyond recognition, and then nailed to a cross. True love bore the weight of every sin on his shoulders. True love is sacrifice. Even after Jesus ascended to heaven he left the scars on his hands, feet, and on his sides so we could know it was him, when he returns.
True love still has scars.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
as always thank you for listening to the impressions of my heart.
